Itinerary

  • Day 01: Arrive Manali.

    On arrival you’ll check in at Apple Country Guest House / Hotel Himgiri / Manali Villa Cottage. Manali, at the northern end of Kulu Valley, is a beautiful Himalayan hill station with an unbeatable location. The river Beas meanders through the town, surrounded by deodar and pine trees, tiny fields, fruit orchards and grassy meadows carpeted with wildflowers which give way to stunning views of lofty snow‐capped peaks. The friendly people of this area are famous for their unique sense of style, including men’s pill‐box caps with colorful geometric embroidery. Overnight stay will be at Manali.

    Day 02: Manali – Rohtang – Keylong – Jispa – Baralacha – Sarchu (230 Km / travel time: 8 – 10 hours).

    The toughest part of the journey, is the long drive from Manali to Leh. The highway is open only between June and mid‐September when snow is cleared from the road by the Border Roads Organisation. It connects the Manali valley and Kullu valleys to Lahaul ‐ Spiti and Ladakh. The highway crosses some of the highest mountain passes in the world and promises to be one of the most memorable and scenic experiences of all time. Overnight stay will be at Goldrop Camp / Mulkila Camp in Sarchu.

    Day 03: Sarchu – Lachulung La – Tanglang La – Leh (244 Km / travel time: 6 – 7 hours).

    Depart early morning, crossing the More Plains and the scenic TanglangLa to arrive in Leh by the afternoon. You could choose to relax after the long journey and acclimatize or walk around Leh town including a visit to Leh Market, Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa and Leh Gompa. Overnight stay will be at Green Vila / Hotel Chube / Hotel Khazdan / Paul Guest House / Royal Plaza / Snow Lion / Cho Palace in  Leh.

    Day 04: Local sightseeing in Leh.

    A relaxed day exploring Leh town, it will include visits to Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace, Hall of Fame, Sindhu Ghat  and you’ll always have an option to explore Leh market in the evening.

    Day 05: Leh to Nubra (135 Km / 5 hours).

    After breakfast drive to Nubra Valley via Khardong Pass (highest motorable road in the world, 18,380 feet). Arrive at Deskit by afternoon. Rest of the day you are free to explore Deskit, Hunder villages and enjoy camel safari in sand dunes (at own expense). Overnight stay will be at Hotel Snow Leopord / Chunka Camp.

    Day 06: Nubra Valley (local sightseeing) and back to Leh.

    As part of cultural tour, after breakfast you'll, visit Diskit & Hunder Villages and monasteries take a stroll around the place to see the life style of people. Drive back to Leh via Khardungla pass. Overnight stay will be in Leh.

    Day 07: Leh To Pangong Lake (160 Km / 6 hours one way).

    After an early breakfast, visit Shey, Thiksey, Hemis monasteries and Sindhu Ghat and then proceed to Pangong Lake (14,500feet), through Chang la Pass (17,350 feet), which is the third highest motorable road in the world (320 Kms.) Enjoy the beauty of lake on the banks of Pangong while appreciating the changing colors of the high altitude lake. Visit the exact spots where the famous Bollywood movie “3 Idiots” and “Jab Tak hai Jaan” was shot. Overnight stay will be in Pangong at Natures Nest Camp / Padma Guest House / Wonderland Camp.

    Day 08: Pangong Lake to Leh.

     After breakfast, travel back to Leh. En-route take a short halt at Changla Pass to enjoy a cup of hot steaming tea. Overnight stay will be in Leh.

    Day 09: Depart  Leh – fly out.

     Transfer to the airport to catch the early morning flight back home. Make sure you reach the airport early to get the window seat to enjoy the landscape of Ladakh as you return.

Tips, Hints, Precautions

  • 1. Do we experience High Altitude Sickness in Ladakh? What are the symptoms and how we get acclimatize?
    On roadtrips to Leh and Ladakh, body gets enough time to acclimatize because of gradual ascend. However, Acute Mountain Sickness or AMS can strike anyone. The most common symptoms of AMS are lack of sleep, loss of appetite, dizziness, irregular breathing, etc. It is highly recommended to consult your doctor and take preventive medicines before embarking on this journey.
